Awwal Reid was born on May 16, 1996, in North Jersey. Awwal Reid and his family moved to Willingboro when he was in 7th grade. That's when I met my best friend. Awwal and I became teammates as seniors before we both graduated from Willingboro in 2014.

  Awwal attended West Virginia State University on a basketball scholarship. In 2017 he came to Wilmington University where Awwal and I were fortunate to, once again, be teammates. On March 18, 2018, Awwal Reid lost his life. We wear Awwal's name on jerseys to honor his memory.World Is Fitness LLC will keep, my best friend, Awwal Reid's dream alive.

“Growing up Wal was always into basketball. I remember watching him play ball from I believe I was the age of 4 until he passed away. Wal started playing basketball when we lived in North Jersey, and he was always dedicated. Our grandfather was a basketball player, and he had all his trophies in the house that we used to always look at whenever we came over, I know they really meant something to my brother. Wal wanted to be the best and he never gave up trying.”
